Maury Walter Olson, 76

October 29, 2026

Born and raised in Baudette, MN, Maury enjoyed all a small rural town can offer. He loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, horses, motorcycles, cars, and the solace of nature. He also enjoyed playing chess and the trumpet. He was a part of several musical groups with friends and co-workers from around the world. From an early age, he was fascinated by electricity, technology and mathematics.

After graduating from High School, Maury earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with honors. He excelled in all things technical, mathematical and logical. For his senior project, he designed and built a precursor to the modern digital watch – before digital watches had even been invented.

Maury married Marlene Richards and together they embarked on a lifelong adventure. They earned black belts and shared a love of teaching Tae Kwan Do and Jane Fonda aerobics, scuba diving, camping, and traveling. Their life together was filled with shared interests, new experiences, and a spirit of adventure.

Maury began his professional career in Florida and went on to work internationally, including assignments in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Sudan. He entered the field of satellite communications when the technology was still in its early stages, learning and mastering new developments as the industry evolved. Throughout his career, he worked alongside talented engineers from around the world, helping to design, install and troubleshoot satellite communication systems. His exceptional problem-solving skills earned him the nickname “Mighty Mo.”

For the last 36 years of his life, Maury devoted himself to studying the Bible, history, and world events. His dedication reflected the same curiosity, determination and desire to understand the world around him that had guided him throughout his life

Maury was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marlene, his parents, Walter and Shirley, and his brother, David.

He is survived by his sister, Julie; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; their 8 children; and Marlene’s family.

This sister can unequivocally say that he was a gentle soul and a great brother.

There will be no public services. The family prefers a private burial.
