April 27, 2026
Dwayne D. Carlberg, age 92, passed away on April 10, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1933, in Border, Minnesota. A few years later, his family moved to Duluth, where he grew up and attended school. During that time, he spent many summers visiting family in the Border/Clementson area and formed a lifelong connection to this part of Minnesota.
Dwayne served as a member of the Army National Guard and later in the United States Air Force as a radar specialist. Following his military service, he worked for Honeywell for several years, then attended the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education. He went on to dedicate his professional career to adult education. Following his years teaching at Superior Technical Institute, Dwayne worked as a draftsman for Northern States Steel Builders.
In 1953, while on leave from the Air Force, Dwayne met his future wife, Louise, on a blind date. They were married in 1956 and remained married for 68 years. Together, they raised two children in a loving home. He and Louise returned to the Baudette area in 1984.
Throughout his life, he had an insatiable love of reading and was always interested in learning new things. Prominent in his life was his faith – after deep study of the Bible, he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1972, and thereafter spent much of his time and energy teaching and helping others learn about the Bible.
Dwayne is survived by his son, Steven (Bonnie) Carlberg of Ocala, Florida; his daughter, Sharron (Paul) Mankus of Baudette, MN; granddaughter Sarah Mankus of Bemidji, MN; brother Mike (Becky) Carlberg of Mankato, MN; sister-in-law Wendy Carlberg of Proctor, MN; cousins David Passi of Clementson, MN, and Marilyn Hughes of Duluth, MN.
Dwayne will be fondly remembered for his unwavering faith and his love of fun and family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on May 23rd, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Baudette Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
