Obituary for Timothy Jay Berggren, age 64
January 13, 2026
Timothy Jay Berggren was born on October 20, 1961 to Russell and Joyce (Groth) Berggren in Williams, Minnesota. He peacefully passed into Eternity at his home on January 3, 2026, from complications related to a long standing hip injury.
Tim grew up as one of six siblings at the family owned Long Point Resort. Childhood at the resort was hands on and demanding, yet full of beauty. Even as a young boy, Tim, known to his siblings as “Timmy” or “Zeek”, knew the value of hard work and found peace in the stillness of nature. It was there that his quiet resilience was born, and he discovered the skills that would lead him to his lifelong passion for building and working with his hands.
After graduating from Lake of the Woods High School in Baudette, Tim found union concrete company, a field that suited him perfectly and he would go on to retire from. He was drawn to work that was physical and honest, where effort and skill were visible in the finished project. Like a true craftsman, his work and hobbies were one and the same, There was very little he could not construct or fix, and no piece of heavy machinery he could not operate. Many will remember him vividly with a cigarette in his mouth and head buried in an old truck engine or rat rod. Others will remember him with his long hair, shooting off a quick wave and grin, from the cabin of a front-end loader, excavator or backhoe, completely content in the work he loved. For Tim, a man of few words (unless cussing out his brothers), fixing or building something for someone was as good as an “I love you”.
Tim was truly a case of “never judge a book by its cover”. His deep voice may have been reserved, but his messages were always warm and genuine. His care for family and friends was quiet, steady and unconditional. He shared a particularly close connection with his mother, Joyce and his sister, Karen, two people who understood him like no one else. Tim shared special bonds and memories with ones he considered his sons and grandchildren. Though not biologically his, he loved them deeply; Jaysen Coleman and his children, Ciera and Carter and Kevin Coleman and his son, Cameron.
Timmy’s grounded presence will forever be cherished and missed by his family at Long Point Resort, including his siblings and their families; Karen Wimpfheimer, (Cory & Shauna Wimpfheimer and family). (Erica and Neal Vatnsdal and family), Barry Berggren (Ian Berggren), Tom and Gail Berggren (Taylor, Ashley & Chloe) (Laura and Ben Frelka), (Connor Berggren), Russell Berggren, Jr., Kelly and Julie Berggren (Brooklyn, Hudson & Ryker). TImmy was greeted in heaven, by his mother and father, Russell and Joyce Berggren and and his niece, Alyse Berggren.
The Berggren family would like to express their sincere gratitude to those who treated him like family over the years. Your kindness and acceptance meant more than words could express. Blessed be his memory.
A graveside service at Pine Hill Cemetery in Williams, with a Celebration of Life at Long Point Resort to be held this summer. Details will be shared at a later date.
