Obituary for Louise Josephine (Siracuse) Menk, age 94

Louise Josephine (Siracuse) Menk, born to Joseph and Lena (Pictaggi) Siracuse on September 8, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois.

She spent her first 21 years in Chicago where she attended St. Dominic's grade school, Mundelein Cathedral High School and De Paul University. After working for Civic Concerts Association several years in Chicago, she married Duane Menk of Bertha, MN. He was in the Air Force and then Base-Connected. They spent time in California, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Montana, Arkansas and Georgia, then returning to Minnesota.

While stationed in Portland, Oregon daughters Donna and Sue were born. Sons Harry and Jeff were born in Wadena, Minnesota.

Employment consisted of working for various businesses in Chicago, in a high school office in California, for the State Employment Office and Western Waxed Paper Co. in Portland, Oregon, front office at DeSoto Hilton in Savannah, Georgia and various businesses in Baudette including real estate, insurance, and the County Attorney office.

Here in Baudette Louise was active as coordinator of the Teen Center for several years, taught a variety of dance classes, was a member of the Moose Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Lakewood Auxiliary, Depot Preservation, member of the Museum, an active member of Sacred Heart Church guild, choir, and bookkeeper 20 years. She volunteered at Food Shelf and the Care Center.

Surviving in addition to Louise's three children: Sue (Kit) Hasbargen of Birchdale, Harry (Mary Melvin) Menk of Plymouth, Minnesota and Jeffrey Menk of Hamilton, Montana her 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews Preceding her in death were her daughter, Donna, her son in law, Bob Sindelir, her mother and father, and her 11 brothers and sisters along with their spouses, one niece and two nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Louise on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
