Dr. Eva “Eve” Josephine Young, age 94

 Dr. Eva “Eve” Josephine Young, age 94, of Chula Vista, CA, passed peacefully on July 14, 2024, with family by her side.

Eva was born on January 8, 1930, in Baudette, MN, to Joseph (Josip) and Mary Vidas, who emigrated from Croatia. Raised on the family farm, Eva was the youngest of three children and attended Border Elementary School and graduated salutatorian from Baudette High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Bemidji State College and attended Chapman College, Orange County, CA, for graduate studies, where she received a Masters in Education Instruction and Administration and a Doctorate in Philosophy and Education. Before moving to Santa Ana, California, and settling in Chula Vista, California, Dr. Young worked as a Principal and Teacher in Northern Minnesota. She also served as Program Coordinator and Instructor at the Department of Defense Education Center Clark Airforce Base, Luzon Island, Philippines, and the 16th U.S. Strategic Air Command Airforce Base in San Pablo, Spain. 
Eve continued her distinguished and inspirational educational career working in the National City School District and as Lead Instructor for the U.S. Marine’s Camp Pendleton Leadership Education Center. Dr. Young also held the position of Professor at American University, Washington DC’s California Campus, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, San Diego, often referred to as the “Havard of aeronautics.” 
In addition to her love of teaching, mentoring, traveling, growing fruit trees, and finishing the NY Times crossword puzzles in record time, Eva also had a soft spot for the precious pups and kittens she lovingly tended and cared for over the years. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Dr. Young will also be remembered for her many accomplishments and leadership in education, as well as her determination and resilience. Peace of the gentle skies be yours, Eva, for you will forever remain in our hearts. 
 Eva is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph (Josip) and Mary Vidas; husband, John William Young; brother, Philip J. Vidas; and sister, Frances M. (Vidas) Green.
She is survived by daughter, Autumn J. Young; Grandson, William P. Young; Goddaughter, Mary C. Vidas; nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Services will take place at a later date to be determined.
