Borghild Joanne “Buttons” Carlson, age 84 of Virginia died Wednesday, April 10, 2024, with her daughter by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 25, 1939 in Williams, MN the daughter of Herman and Norma (Skoog) Anderson. Buttons grew up in Williams and was married to Ardean “Dean” Carlson on May 23, 1958 in Williams, MN. They moved to Madsion, WI, back to Virginia, then to Bemidji before returning to Virginia. She was employed by State Farm Insurance for 30+ years with the Jack Johnson and Mark Gazelka Agencies. She also worked for the Range Mental Health Center as a cook for seven years, and retired from there at the age of 78. Buttons also volunteered in the kitchen of Meals on Wheels in Bemidji.

Buttons was a very involved member of the Virginia Moose Lodge, and proudly served as Senior Regent. She was also involved with Moose Heart who served underprivileged children throughout the United Sates. Buttons was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia since 1971. She enjoyed fishing, embroidery, reading, doing puzzles and cooking. Buttons and Dean made many lifelong friends while camping on Red Lake in Waskish.

Buttons is survived by her daughter: Barb of Virginia, siblings: Henry “Andy” Anderson of Hoopeston, IL and Sonja “Sunny” Wilmer of Warroad, MN; many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous special friends. She is also survived by her chosen adoptive daughter: LeeAnn Krogerson of Superior, WI; as well as the additional chosen “Adoptive” Adler Family of Madison, WI. Buttons will be dearly missed; without a doubt, to know her was to love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Dean; stepmother: Ann Anderson; siblings: Merton “Butchie” “Andy” Anderson and Karen Anderson. She was also preceded in death by Mabel and Herman Torgerson, Clifford Carlson, Melvin and Darlene Carlson, Arvid and Gladys Carlson, and Myrtle and Clarence Calson.

Buttons proudly told everyone that she was the last living “Matriarch” of the Carlson Family.

The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Liz Cheney will officiate.
