Oscar Edward Maus was born on September 12, 1927, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to August and Agnes Maus. He was the 10th out of 15 siblings.

He graduated out of 8th grade and then stayed home to help his Dad on the farm. He joined the Army in 1948 and was in the 82 Airborne. He was discharged in 1952. On July 26, 1952, he married Marlene Johnson at the Wabanica Lutheran Church. They moved to Orr, MN, where he and his dad raised cattle. Their first child, Bradley, was born. Their next move was to Anaconda, Montana. He worked at the Smelter Mining Co. for a short time. They then moved to Coquille, Oregon, where he worked for Georgia Pacific and then at International Harvester as a mechanic. There, they had two more children. Shelley and Todd.

After 11 years in Oregon, they moved back to Baudette. They bought the Alvin Johnson place, which was owned by Jasper Nelson at the time. Their 4th child, Heidi, was born. Oscar worked for Marvin Nelson in Williams as a mechanic. During the summers, he worked as a mechanic for Hodgeman doing road construction. He did that for eight years.

Bradley and he decided to buy a skidder and worked for Gerald Erickson. They decided to go on their own. He and his two sons, Bradley and Todd, and son-in-law Tom Olson, started logging. Later, they started a sawmill, which eventually became Maus Sales.

Marlene died on July 16, 2003. After that, he went to the Pitt Church, where he met Norma. They were married on November 12, 2003. They were together for 20 years, and she spoiled him rotten. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her "Precious."

Oscar has one surviving brother, Arnie and his wife Pugs. He is preceded in death by Marlene and her son Todd.

Oscar was an excellent mechanic and loved his job, family, and the Lord.

A Memorial Service for Oscar Maus will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Wabanica Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN. Interment will take place at Wabanica Cemetery.
