Visitation was held on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette, MN, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be held at Pitt Cemetery.
Florence Minnie (Johnson) Haukaas was born March 4th, 1925, to Carl Oscar and Dena (Olson) Johnson in Warren Mn. Her family moved to Pitt when she was young. There she graduated from Baudette High School in 1944. After a car accident, she married her husband Harvik Klemet Haukaas on December 27, 1953. They purchased a farmstead in Pitt where they lived until 2003. After 50 years of marriage and farming, they moved to the Northwood Commons. Harvik passed a few months later and Florence continued to live self-sufficiently until October 2022. Florence was a homemaker and amazing cook who always had the coffee on and some sort of "treat," if not a full-course meal to offer you, as hosting was one of her joys. She was an avid gardener that provided different sides to those meals. After playing some sort of card game, there would also be the dessert time before you left. Her love of cards had her at the first place podium at the "whist" tournaments and cribbage games. and she had "FUN" there.
She enjoyed fishing, traveling, the outdoors, her pets-dogs (FartLars and Snooper), and riding around the country in the car that she drove in until, well, maybe too long. It was doing "something" that she loved the most.
She loved her nieces and nephews and her COUSINS. And you knew she loved them as she greeted them with a kiss and a hug coming and going. And not just a peck on the cheek. She was the exact definition of "A SOCIAL BUTTERFLY." She really loved shopping, as the grocery store was one of her favorite visiting places. If you were in the grocery store, you probably met her, had a few minute conversation, got a kiss goodbye, and a "nice to meet and see you". She seemed to always have time. That extra time that it takes to make it to the age of 98 years, 5 months, and 10 days old. In October 2022, she met the stereotypical broken hip opponent, bringing her into many new people's lives. The last few months of her life, she brought smiles, warm hands, and as many hugs and kisses as she could give away. She passed away as peacefully as the caregiver had seen in years, holding her hand, on August 14, 2023, at 5:18 a.m.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews (great and great great nieces and nephews) and also her cousins. Of whom there are so many to list and wouldn't want to miss naming.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harvik, infant daughter Dianna Lynn, in 1955, her parents, brother, Maynard, sisters in laws, Evelyn Johnson, Maxine Haukaas, Charlotte Anderson (Haukaas-Mollberg), brother-in-laws, Milton Mollberg, Rollie Haukaas, and Marvin Anderson. and niece Mary (Johnson) Olson.
She will be buried next to her husband at Pitt Riverside Cemetery.
