David Hubachek, 82

David Lawrence Hubachek, aged 82, passed away peacefully at home in Bemidji on December 29, 2022, after a brief battle with lung cancer. David was born in 1940 to Otto and Dorothy Hubachek in St Cloud, MN, later moving to Brainerd, MN, and eventually to Baudette, MN, where he spent most of his youth.
David was a hockey player for the Baudette High School and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and exploring the forests and lakes of Northern Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school in 1958, David enlisted in the US NAVY. He attended the US Naval training center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Following training, he spent time onboard the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier in the Atlantic and Mediterranean oceans, and he was on the ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

David spent many years working in the Duluth area, Twin Cities, and St. Cloud, and eventually settled in the Bemidji area in 2014. David was very active in his early years, playing in an amateur hockey league, bowling league, and was also an avid golfer. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting in the fall in the Beltrami Island state forest. He enjoyed spending time with family on Lake of the Woods and was fearless in a tiny boat on the huge waves of the lake.

David is survived by daughter Stacie Hubachek of Newnan, Georgia, and Son David (DJ) Hubachek of Bemidji, Minnesota. Siblings Carol Severn of Bemidji, Minnesota, Laurel and husband Paul Satran of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and Otto and wife Linda Hubachek of Otsego, Minnesota, many nieces and nephews, and his puppy dog Heidi. David was a loving Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

David will be laid to rest in the columbarium at Camp Ripley at 1 p.m. on June 9, 2023, following a private family service.
