Delores Campbell, 66

Delores “Dee” Lucille Campbell passed away November 25, 2022, at the age of 66 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida after a sudden medical emergency. A memorial service will be held in Williams, MN, in the summer of 2023 when far-flung family and friends will be able to attend.

Delores Lucille Carlson was born September 26, 1956, at Trinity Hospital in Baudette, MN. She was the third of seven children born to Dale Carl Carlson and Beverly Joyce (Knight) Carlson.

She grew up on the family farm in rural Willams, MN. As a middle child, she was alternately an instigator and peacemaker. Delores was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Williams. She graduated from the Lake of the Woods High School in Baudette, MN, in 1975.

Delores graduated from Bemidji State University in 1980 with an education degree. After reconsidering career options, she enrolled in the Health Sciences program at the Hibbing Community College and became a surgical tech. She worked in this position in Thief River Falls, MN, and Wausau, WI, before enrolling in the Nursing program at the Chippewa Valley Technical College in Chippewa Falls, WI. She continued her nursing education while working as a nurse in Eu Claire and Wausau, WI, completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Phoenix.

Delores married Robert Campbell on November 30, 1996, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Williams, MN. That date just happened to be one the biggest snowstorms of that winter, providing some additional drama for the day’s events.

Robert and Delores lived in Wisconsin until moving to his family homestead in Clearfield, Kentucky, in 2007. She worked as a traveling nurse for the past 15 years, spending 3-6 months at a time in various hospitals as a cardiovascular operating room nurse. She made and maintained friendships across the country among her colleagues. She was working at the hospital in Sarasota at the time of her passing.

Delores specialized in spoiling her pets and her nieces and nephews and their children. She kept current with family scattered across the globe. Hobbies included embroidery and gardening. She also sought past family connections by researching family history.

She is survived by her husband Robert and siblings Dana (Williams, MN), David (Rochester, NY), Elizabeth Betsy Jo (Williams, MN), Calvin (Williams, MN), Celeste (Drake, ND), Alan (Waco, TX), six nieces and a nephew, and eight great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. As Delores requested, her ashes will be buried at Pine Hill Cemetery in Williams following a memorial service.
