Donna Walz, 64

August 30, 1958 – September 29, 2022

A Celebration of Life Ceremony for Donna Walz will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Woodland Bible Church in Warroad, MN.

Donna Walz, 64, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Essentia Health System in Fargo, ND after a long battle with COPD.

Donna Mae Walz was born on August 30, 1958, in Baudette, MN to Bennie and Mildred (Leigh) Walz. Donna spent her younger years in Baudette, MN. On September 19, 1975, she was united in marriage to John KaKayGeesick Sr. of Warroad, MN. Donna and John raised four children Rachel, John Jr., Angela and Michael. Donna and John moved to Moorhead later in life.

Donna loved her family and cherished her friends, co-workers, acquaintances and all whom she met. She loved and treasured her dog, Zoey of 15-years. As many know Donna not only struggled with COPD but with alcoholism as well. She did not hide this fact and often talked openly on her struggles and triumphs with family and friends. She often could be found reading her “Day by Day – Daily Meditations for Recovering Addicts” book. This book provided her the strength to move forward with many encouraging messages to her from fellow addicts on her courage, faith, sense of humor, good listener, friendliness, trust, and above all her love of those around her.

Donna was an amazing woman in her own right. We will miss her beyond words and will love her forever. “I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone.”

She is survived by children Rachel (Chris) Johnson, John Jr KaKayGeesick (Amber Carlson), Angela KaKayGeesick (Justin Ritter), Michael (Lisa) KaKayGeesick; and 10 Grandchildren Andrew Johnson, Alexis (Tristen) McDonald, Raven KaKayGeesick, Jasmine Ritter, Lydia Hart, Kheldon Ritter, Delilah KaKayGeesick, Abraham KaKayGeesick and Harper KaKayGeesick; and by her ex-husband John KaKayGeesick Sr. whom she cherished with all her heart. She is also survived by her siblings Jerry Walz, Roger (Sandy) Walz, Janice Shaugabay, Shirley (Clyde) Berry, Lori (Jim) Nicodemus and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and care givers.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Mildred Walz, sister Carol, brothers, Dale and Glen Walz along with many other cousins, family members and friends.
